Over view

A waterjet machine, also known as a water jet cutting or water jet cleaning, is an industrial tool capable of cutting a wide variety of materials using a very high-pressure jet of water, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. The term abrasivejet refers specifically to the use of a mixture of water and abrasive to cut hard materials such as metal or granite, while the terms pure waterjet and water-only cutting refer to waterjet cutting without the use of added abrasives, often used for softer materials such as wood or rubber.

Waterjet cutting is often used during fabrication of machine parts. It is the preferred method when the materials being cut are sensitive to the high temperatures generated by other methods. Waterjet cutting is used in various industries, including mining and aerospace, for cutting, shaping, and reaming.

High pressure

A waterjet  is a tool capable of slicing into metal or other materials using a jet of water at high velocity and pressure, or a mixture of water and an abrasive substance. The process is essentially the same as water erosion found in nature but greatlyaccelerated and concentrated.
The cutter is commonly connected to a high-pressure water pump where the water is then ejected from the nozzle, cutting through the material by spraying it with the jet of high-speed water. Additives in the form of suspended grit or other abrasives, such as garnet and aluminum oxide, can assist in this process.

Speed, Savings and Efficiencies of Water jet Cutting

There are several ways Watex abrasive waterjet services can save you time. Whether you supply us with the material or rely on us to source it, our “Watex Waterjet" services will save you time and money. Here's how:
Nesting -Parts with computer programming that will decrease wasted material and maximize your cost
Stacking Material - Some material, depending on the thickness, can be stacked to decrease cutting times by 40%. Quality of cut and total thickness must be taken into consideration.
Minimal Tooling - Watex Waterjet Design can cut a wide variety of parts with no tooling, thus decreasing time and increasing savings on tooling costs.
Material – Watex Waterjet Design will nest and cut your parts with minimal waste. Also, the water jet minimizes material waste compared to CNC milling processes that require working to the critical dimensions.

Abrasive waterjet

Abrasive waterjet cutting systems use a combination of water and garnet to cut through materials considered "un-machineable" by conventional cutting methods. Using small amounts of water while eliminating the friction caused by tool-to-part contact, abrasivejet cutting avoids thermal damage which can adversely affect metallurgic properties in materials being cut. The ability to pierce through material also eliminates the need and cost of drilling starter holes. Because abrasivejet cuts with a narrow kerf, parts can be tightly nested thus maximizing material usage.

Abrasive waterjet can cut through materials ranging from 1/16 inch (1.6 mm) to 12 inches (305 mm) with an accuracy of ± 0.005 inch (0.13 mm).

When coupled with a suitable motion control system, abrasive waterjet cutting provides extremely accurate cuts with a high degree of repeatability over a wide range of materials and shapes.

Abrasive Waterjet is excellent for the cutting of complex shapes, and in fragile materials such as glass, the high failure rate due to breakage and chipping of corners during conventional processing is virtually eliminated. Whatever your industrial need,
abrasive waterjet is an accurate, flexible, and efficient cutting system.
